Here at Brighton Cookery School, we have a passion for food and believe anyone can learn to cook and appreciate fresh, fine foods. We believe all children should have these skills as they move through adolescence, but as life gets busier, its seems there is less time to spend in the kitchen at home, and these skills seem to waning amongst our young ones.
Our classes are fun and informative in a supported environment; this gives our students the confidence to be hands on with raw produce and kitchen equipment, enabling them to create delicious dishes from scratch. All our lessons are followed up with recipe and method cards so they can go home and recreate what they have learnt and with each lesson the students get to take home the dishes they have produced.
We have been working with some prestigious local schools since 2013 on their student ‘School Enrichment Programmes’. This programme was set in motion to give the students a solid foundation in the understanding of food and learning how to prepare meals from scratch. No packaged or processed foods allowed!
We offer stand alone sessions, term time weekly sessions and after school cooking clubs to schools within the Sussex area. Cooking classes can be from 1 to 4 hours, depending on your requirements.
The Brighton Cookery School team hold up to date safeguarding training, Food safety certification and advanced DBS checks. We welcome teachers who escort the pupils to get involved at no extra cost. Students are provided with protective aprons, ingredients and mineral water for the session and get to take away the food that they have prepared during the session. We email the lead teacher recipes and method cards to distribute to the students after their session
Thank you once again to you, Ben and the rest of the team for having us. Catching up with them today they really enjoyed the experience and there is a buzz about trying the techniques and recipes out at home. I certainly picked up a few technique tidbits myself!
Thanks so much to your team for yesterday’s pasta making, I’ve had great feedback from everyone who came and I’m sure we will be back again in the not so distant future! Once again a huge thank you for making the session fun and accessible for all the children, it was a pleasure to work with you.
I would like to express my appreciation to you both for planning & hosting such a great ‘Pizza Cooking Experience’ for our visually impaired children. Ben was amazing with the children, he was thorough, gave clear instructions and was very patient with them too…. A very well organised event and a perfect venue.
Your generosity does not go unnoticed…on behalf of the Look Sussex Trustees and of course all our Sussex families too, we cannot thank you enough.
Brighton Cookery School graciously hosted our Brighton Youth Centre ‘Bake Off’ which was filmed for the annual Youth Film Festival. Lel and the team were brilliant! The young people had loads of fun learning how to make a wicked chocolate fondant which was immediately consumed, mostly by me! Thanks BCS for supporting our Brighton young people!
I just wanted to say a huge thank you for today, what an experience for everyone. It’s not easy doing such a lesson/demonstration for any group of children, let alone a group with serious visual impairments, but it was awesome. They all felt so included and were all completely engaged. Wonderful.
A massive thank you and well done for all your efforts in delivering HHH this Term. It’s been a long term and there has been much activity in HHH across the whole of KS3; the girls have learnt a huge deal and this would not have been possible without you!
